I’m Saori (pronounced “say-oree”), and like a lot of people in this world, I love coffee.
I first fell in love with coffee — or more specifically, espressos — during a one-year study abroad program in Italy. I didn’t even like drinking coffee before that. It always made me feel sick, and honestly, I thought it tasted like bitter, muddy water.
Maybe I was influenced by the atmosphere of the stylish, cozy Italian bars, or maybe there really isn’t anything that quite compares to the Italian caffè. Whatever the reason, my first cup of freshly extracted espresso was exhilarating, and it was love at first sip.
Of all the amazing drinks that begin as coffee beans, espressos are my favorite. After my year in Italy, I worked as a barista for about four months to learn how to use an espresso machine, and to drink as many cups as my little heart desired (while still making sure the cafe didn’t go bankrupt).
But I was, and still am, no expert. It takes years of learning and practice for baristas to become masters in the art of coffee, and all I have are some coffee books, a few coffee makers, and deep appreciation for every single cup I drink.
Still, I’ve decided to begin a journey to discover all the different ways you can make a perfect cup of coffee. Be it through learning about coffee beans, extraction, or even finding the perfect coffee mug, I’ll be here to introduce information, products, and anything else that might make your already delicious cup of coffee even better.
I can only hope that you will all join me in this journey, and teach me what you know about coffee along the way, too.
